13 Lucky Players Left in Event 3

Event 3: $500 + $60 No Limit

Three more eliminations in the $500 + $60 No-Limit Hold'em event has the field down to 13 players.

Javier Fernandez was short-stacked and moved all in under the gun with 8 8, and Vatthana "Vee" Souryachak moved all in over the top from the button with A K. The board came K 3 2 5 6, and Souryachak paired his king on the flop to win the pot and bust Fernandez in 16th place. Souryachak now has about 300k in chips.

Deonarine Itwaru (15th Place)

The 15th-place finisher was Deonarine Itwaru. I met Itwaru yesterday on the money bubble, and he told me I should take his photo and put him in the blog, because his wife needed to know that he was going to make a deep run and survive to Day 2. I told him that if that was the case, I'd just wait to take his photo on Day 2.

Itwaru did survive to Day 2, but caught some horrible luck with 15 players left. He was all in preflop and poised to double up, with his A-Q dominating another player's A-J. But the board brought a jack, and just like that, Itwaru was out in 15th place. He's a nice, personable guy, and you can see the photo I promised him posted above.

Dan Retallick was riding high until he lost some chips to John Cleaver in a battle of the blinds. Cleaver raised from the small blind to 36,000, and Retallick moved all in from the big blind, covering him. Cleaver tanked for about a minute before he called with K J, and he was ahead of Retallick's Q 10. The board came A 8 6 7 A, and Cleaver doubled up to about 405k, and Retallick dropped to about 390k.

While writing up this post, we also lost James Martini in 14th place. The final 13 players are currently playing with blinds at 6k/12k with a 2k ante.

16th: Javier Fernandez (New York, NY) - $1,538
15th: Deonarine Itwaru (Ozone Park, NY) - $1,809
14th: James Martini (Cliffside Park, NJ) - $1,809
