Event 8 Ladies Recap

Event 8: $200 + $30 Ladies No Limit Hold'em

Liping Zhang (Doylestown, PA) used experience and good fortune to win the Ladies event of the Borgata Poker Open. After finishing 4th in the Summer Open, Zhang topped 154 players to win the $8,962 first prize.

"I read a fortune cookie yesterday (Saturday) that said, 'You'll be traveling and come into good fortune,' and that's what I did," she said after winning with 109 on the final hand.

Zhang outlasts Phuong "Sandy" Nguyen (Egg Harbor Twp., NJ) and Sherry Herman (Farmingdale, NJ) who finished 2nd and 3rd respectively.

A lot of familiar faces who've recently made Borgata Ladies final tables were in the field, including heavy hitter Alida Veliu (Wyckoff, NJ) who finished 15th ($523) and has now cashed three times in the last 20 months, including 4th place (2010) and 1st place (2009) finishes in each of the last two Winter Opens.

Also picking up another final table was Nancy McLaughlin (Broomall, PA) who finished 9th ($672) after an 8th place finish in the Spring.

Midway through the event 4 big stacks emerged and they all rode the momentum to a payday.

Elaine Rawn (Toronto, Canada), who finished 5th ($1,793) and Maureen Michilovich (New York, NY), who came in 10th ($598) made the final table. While Marguerite Spagnuolo (Staten Island, NY) and Zem Mustefa (Washington, D.C. via Ethiopia) came in 14th ($523) and 16th ($448) places respectively.

The total buy-in of $30,800 was divided between 18 places and it took more than 14 hours for the Zhang to be crowned champion.
